Major Tech Companies Invest in India Following Prime Minister Modi’s US Trip

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to the US, which aimed to enhance the partnership between India and the Western superpower in technology, three major corporations, namely Google, Amazon, and Microsoft, have declared their plans to invest in India’s tech industry. These companies will provide significant capital investments and collaborate on technology to improve the country’s digital infrastructure.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced today, June 24, that the company will open its global fintech operations center in the GIFT City area of Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Not only that, but the search engine giant has also committed to invest in India through its $10 billion digitization fund.

“It was an honor to meet Prime Minister Modi during his historic visit to the US. We shared with the Prime Minister that Google will invest $10 billion in the India Digitization Fund. We are excited today to announce the opening of our global fintech operations center in GIFT City Gujarat,” news agency ANI quoted Pichai as saying.

He further added, “It consolidates India’s fintech leadership with UPI and Aadhaar. We plan to build on that foundation and take it global.”

Amazon, Microsoft also share investment plans in India

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced that the e-commerce giant has made an additional $15 billion investment in India over the next 7 years, bringing their total investment to $26 billion. Jassy disclosed the financial support to PM Modi personally during their meeting.

“Productive meeting with PM @NarendraModi. Amazon’s commitment to invest $26 billion in India by 2030 was discussed; By working together, we support startups, create jobs, enable exports and give individuals and small businesses the opportunity to compete globally,” he said on Twitter.

Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella also met the Prime Minister of India and discussed the role of technology in improving the lives of Indians. In particular, the possibilities of artificial intelligence (AI) were discussed, and a plan for studying its use cases was shared.

In a statement, Microsoft said, “India is home to one of the world’s most vibrant developer and startup ecosystems, and Microsoft remains deeply committed to the growth of Indian technology – which will impact both India and markets around the world.”

Apart from these big tech companies, Tesla CEO Elon Musk had also said that he will bring Tesla cars to India “as soon as humanly possible”. Meanwhile, Musk’s SpaceX is trying to bring Starlink satellite internet to India.
